Over the next several months, we will be highlighting many of these great employees to learn more about who they are, the work they do and what they like most about being a part of the Northern Human Services team. Let’s meet Account Manager, Rosalie Smith, who has been an employee since 1989!

The people we serve have varying levels of financial resources. I can help to ease their concerns over paying for services.

NHS: What do you like most about the work you do?

Rosalie: I like being able to increase revenue for the Agency with accurate billing. I like answering tough questions and I enjoy being part of an awesome team.

NHS: What do you consider to be your greatest achievement while working for Northern Human Services? Or, which of your contributions/projects have you enjoyed the most?

Rosalie: I consider almost 33 years of service to be my greatest achievement. I also enjoy being part of the Credentialing Committee Team.  This allows me to make sure the Agency receives the most revenue.  I keep up with the latest updates from pay sources (insurance companies) and pass along to the team.

NHS: In a few sentences, describe a typical (or non-typical!) day at work.

Rosalie: I [like to] line up my work in order of priority. I answer questions from staff regarding client accounts, billing, electronic medical records (EMR), pay sources, coding services, etc. I attend various meetings with our EMR vendor and make suggestions. I cover for other Account Managers when asked.  I remove staff from the rosters of various pay sources. I verify insurance coverage for all clients requesting services.  I also try to answer any questions a client might have regarding their account. If I don’t know an answer, I will research until I find one.

NHS: What is an important lesson you have learned from working in human services?

Rosalie: Compassion for our clients.  The people we serve have varying levels of financial resources. I can help to ease their concerns over paying for services. To be kind and understanding. No judgement. I never know what a person is dealing with. It takes courage for a client to walk through our front door.  There is still stigma attached to mental health and substance abuse.

NHS:What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Rosalie: I enjoy spending time with my husband, children, grandchildren and pets. I really enjoy hanging out laundry on a sunny day. Ask anyone I work with. There’s nothing like the smell of line dried sheets. I also love driving my car in the summer with the radio on, sunroof open, and windows open. I store her in the winter.
